We are based in Longmont, about twenty-five minutes down 287, and we have been painting homes along this stretch of the Front Range since 2009. Berthoud is not a market we drove into last year because it started growing. We have been working here through the growth.
And the growth is exactly what makes Berthoud different from every other town we serve.
Berthoud has gone from a quiet farm town to one of the fastest-growing communities in Larimer County, and most of that new construction went up between 2015 and today. Which means thousands of homes in Heron Lakes, Farmstead, Prairie Star, and Heritage Ridge are hitting the seven to ten year mark right now.
Here is what most homeowners do not know about a new build: production builders apply one coat of a low-solids, builder-grade product over a factory prime. It looks perfect at closing. It is not built to last. On the south and west elevations, where the sun does the real work, that coating starts chalking and fading years before the homeowner expects to be repainting anything.
If your house was built in the last decade and the color looks tired on one side and fine on the other, that is not your imagination. That is a thin first coat reaching the end of its life.
The repaint is where the house actually gets protected. Full washdown, proper prep, and two coats of Sherwin-Williams at correct spread rates buys you something the original never had.
Sitting out on the open prairie east of the foothills, Berthoud takes wind that towns tucked closer to the hogback do not. Add high-altitude UV across roughly 300 sunny days a year, the Front Range hail corridor, and February days that swing forty degrees between sunrise and afternoon, and you have a coating environment that punishes shortcuts.
Those temperature swings are the quiet killer. Every cycle makes siding and trim expand and contract. Caulk that was not rated for that movement splits, water gets into the joint, and the failure spreads underneath the paint where nobody sees it until a board is soft. We caulk what moves with elastomeric, not whatever is cheapest by the case.
Heron Lakes and the TPC Colorado corridor. Premium homes, strict architectural standards, and neighbors who will notice if the job is sloppy. We prepare the color submittal for the review committee so you are not guessing at what they want.
Farmstead, Prairie Star, and Heritage Ridge. Newer construction, mostly fiber cement and LP SmartSide with stucco accents. These are the builder-grade repaints described above, and they are most of what we do out here.
Rose Farm Acres and Vantage. Larger lots, more varied architecture, more custom color work.
Old Town Berthoud, along Mountain Avenue and the surrounding blocks. Berthoud was founded in 1877 and physically moved a mile in 1883 to reach the rail line, and a good number of those original homes are still standing. Wood lap siding, deep trim profiles, and almost all of it pre-1978. That means lead paint protocol is not optional. We are EPA Lead-Safe certified and we follow containment and disposal rules the way they are written.
County properties and acreage outside town limits. Outbuildings, barns, and detached garages included. We have the equipment for tall and awkward.
Nearly every newer Berthoud community runs an architectural review process, and most homeowners discover this after they have already picked a color they love. We prepare the submittal for you: manufacturer, color names and codes, placement by architectural element, and the photos or elevation drawings your committee expects. If the board pushes back, we help you answer them.
Walls, ceilings, trim, doors, and cabinet refinishing. You get a written scope naming every surface and every finish before we start, so there is no debate later about whether the closets were included. We mask and protect like you still live there, because you do.
Wash, scrape and sand to sound substrate, spot prime, caulk what moves, replace what is rotten, then coat. We schedule around Colorado weather instead of pretending it will cooperate, and we will tell you honestly when we are too close to the temperature window to do the job right.
My house is only eight years old. Why does it already need paint? Production builders apply one thin coat of a low-solids, builder-grade product. It is priced to pass a final walkthrough, not to last fifteen years. In Berthoud's UV and wind exposure, seven to ten years is a normal life for that original coating, and the south and west elevations usually go first.
Do I need HOA approval to paint my house in Berthoud? In Heron Lakes, Farmstead, Prairie Star, Heritage Ridge, and most newer developments, yes. We prepare the color submittal package as part of the project.
Are you actually local, or are you driving up from Denver? We are based in Longmont, roughly twenty-five minutes south on 287, and we have worked the Berthoud and Loveland corridor for years. Our owner grew up in Longmont. We are not a national franchise routing your call to a call center.
When is the best time to paint an exterior in Berthoud? Late April through October is the reliable window. Most exterior products need surface temperatures above 50 degrees with overnight lows that stay there. Given how fast conditions swing here, the forecast matters more than the calendar, and we schedule accordingly.
Do you handle lead paint in Old Town Berthoud homes? Yes. Anything built before 1978 falls under EPA RRP rules, which covers most of the historic core. We are Lead-Safe certified.

Zach and his team did a wonderful job! We had the exterior, inside doors, and inside trim painted. They worked hard to make sure all the details I wanted were done right. They were also great working around our two dogs. Highly recommend!
